Meet Our Doulas Q&A: Angela Starosta

Do you have any special skills or other services you provide other than being a birth doula?

I have quite a bit of extra breastfeeding education, and am actively pursuing more. I intend to offer prenatal breastfeeding classes in the new year.

Where did you grow up? Where have you lived?

I grew up in Murrysville & Plum. I have recently moved back to Plum, after over a decade in Washington County.

You’re going out to a birth. What are your jams to get you in the mood driving out?

Depending on my mood, either 90s rock or 60s/70s folk.

What are your favorite places in Pittsburgh? Top 3:

Pasqualino's in Penn Hills, Water Steps, Sing Sing

What is the most memorable moment at a birth?

I once had a baby poo across the entire length of the room and everyone in it, except for mom, as soon as she was placed skin to skin.

What are your favorite things to do when you’re not being a doula?

Lifting weights, dancing with my husband, redecorating my house (in theory, when reality isnt practical).

Tell me three places on your bucket-list you’d love to travel and vacation at:

Plitvice Lakes, Croatia,Tropical huts in Southeast Asia or Oceania Food tour in Italy

What is something fascinating about you that people may be surprised to learn?

I used to be a rifle and archery instructor.

Spring, Summer, Fall or Winter?

Fall, without a doubt

It’s 8PM on a Thursday. What are you doing (In an ideal world)?

In an ideal world: Sipping an outrageous drink at sunset on a far away beach, which is miraculously devoid of annoying things like horse flies or sharks at night.

In a great version of my own reality: Wrapping up yoga at the Y with some Shavasana, while my hubby deals with bedtime routine.
