Meet Our Doulas Q&A: Stephanie Williams

Do you have any special skills or other services you provide other than being a birth doula?

I am also a certified placenta arts specialist and postpartum doula.

Where did you grow up? Where have you lived?

I grew up just a few streets away from where I live now!

You’re going out to a birth. What are your jams to get you in the mood driving out?

Sometimes it is an audio book, other times its Imagine Dragons, Blue October or even Vitamin String Quartet to calm.

What are your favorite places in Pittsburgh? Top 3:

Carnegie Art Museum, The Point and all of the libraries, basically.

What is the most memorable moment at a birth?

Somehow, as baby was crowning, I ended up getting splashed by a lot of amniotic fluid just as Dad ducked out of the way.

What are your favorite things when you’re not being a doula?

I listen to audiobooks, hang out with my family, mentoring for the Association of Placenta Preparation Arts.

What are you exceptionally awesome at as a doula? What makes you unique?

I am always offering to help anyone. I want the birth team to be able to work as a friendly team. I also tend to be friendly to all, sometimes sarcastic...

Tell me three places on your bucket-list you’d love to travel and vacation at:

England, Australia and Toronto (to visit my best friend)

What is something fascinating about you that people may be surprised to learn?

I studied mortuary science at PIMS and loved it.

Spring, Summer, Fall or Winter?

Autumn!.

It’s 8PM on a Thursday. What are you probably doing (In an ideal world)?

Getting Kali to sleep WITHOUT a fight. Listening to her reading a book and snuggling her.
